John Costello

As a specialist orthodontist and co-founder of Total Orthodontics, John Costello brings over 25 years of experience to patients seeking straighter, healthier and more confident smiles.

Training and qualifications

John Costello studied dentistry at Guy's Hospital and graduated in 1992. After a series of maxillofacial surgery posts and a spell in general practice plus completion of the Fellowship in Dental Surgery, he entered the three year postgraduate orthodontic training programme at the Eastman Dental Institute. In 1999, John was awarded a Master of Science degree and the Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and he has published papers in the British Dental Journals, presented research at the British Orthodontic and Dental Research Conferences and lectured both nationally and internationally on various orthodontic subjects.

Passionate about the progression of orthodontics, John is an active member of the British Orthodontic Society. He has sat on the Kent Local Dental Committee and Managing Clinical Orthodontic Network Group, and is on the UK Advisory Board for Invisalign. He also facilitates specialist orthodontist registration courses for Align.

John won the coveted ‘Against All Odds’ British Orthodontic Society Prize in 2008, and shares his expertise by training and mentoring orthodontic therapists and specialists in his 25-year spell in specialist practice. John was awarded BUPA’s Specialist Orthodontist of the year 2020. He treats patients from Total Orthodontics Tonbridge and Sevenoaks – which was awarded BUPA’s Orthodontic Practice in 2022 – and he was highly commended in the Orthodontic Invisalign category at the Aesthetics Private Dentistry Awards in 2021.

Lindsey Shaw

Lindsey Shaw is a specialist orthodontist with over 25 years of experience and an eye for detail.

Training and qualifications

Lindsey studied dentistry at the University of Bristol and graduated in 1995. She then spent two years working in general dental practice in the Midlands and the South West, gaining valuable experience within all disciplines of general dental care. Lindsey then returned to Bristol and spent two years working in hospital posts, including restorative dentistry, children’s dental health and oral and maxillofacial surgery. During this time, she gained the Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

From 1999 to 2002, Lindsey undertook specialist training in orthodontics at the Eastman Dental Institute in London, gaining an MSc and Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. This enabled her to become registered as a specialist orthodontist with the General Dental Council. Lindsey has been with Total Orthodontics since 2002 and works in our Sevenoaks and Cranbrook practices.

Treatments offered

Lindsey is trained in adult and teen Invisalign appliances and is a Platinum Invisalign provider, lecturing widely on the subject. Lindsey also treats many younger patients with the Invisalign First system designed to align front teeth, widen smiles, correct bite issues and create more space for the adult teeth to erupt into. This avoids the need for extractions and can intercept early developmental problems.

Outside of work, she is married to Tim, has two children (now both grown up and at university) and has been heavily involved in sport all her life. Lindsey works alongside orthodontic therapists April and Hannah and nurses Victoria and Hannah to provide specialist Orthodontic care at Cranbrook.

Hannah Francomb

Hannah joined the Total Orthondontics Sevenoaks practice in 2011 as a dental nurse and has since qualified as an orthodontic therapist.

Hannah started her dental nurse training in 2009 at King’s College Hospital and gained an NVQ level 3 in dental nursing. After qualifying as a nurse, Hannah completed additional qualifications in radiography, impression taking and clinical photography qualifications. Hannah later became the lead nurse at Total Orthodontics Brighton, before embarking on the orthodontic therapy course and qualifying from the Royal College of Surgeon London in 2016.

Alongside working at our practice, Hannah also works at Total Orthodontics Tunbridge Wells and Crawley, treating NHS and private patients under the supervision and prescription of an orthodontist.

Lottie Squires is part of the nursing team and has been working at Total Orthodontics for four years. Lottie started her dental journey at Total Orthodontics Tonbridge (which was mainly NHS-based) before moving to Total Orthodontics Sevenoaks in September 2023.

From August 2025, Lottie is taking on a new venture and will become our treatment coordinator. Her role will involve guiding patients through every step of their treatment plan and answering any questions along the way. Lottie finds working for Total Orthodontics rewarding. She enjoys supporting patients throughout their journey towards achieving a straight and more confident smile.

Hayley Townsend

Hayley Townsend is a motivated and dedicated lead dental nurse with three years of hands-on orthodontic experience. She began her dental career at Sevenoaks Total Orthodontics as a trainee dental nurse, and rapidly progressed through training with a strong commitment to clinical excellence, patient care and professional growth. Skilled in coordinating orthodontic workflows and supporting complex treatments, Hayley is confident in taking digital scans as well as maintaining high standards of infection control. Hayley is also known for building a strong rapport with patients and fostering a calm, efficient and team-orientated environment.

Zoe Graham is an experienced orthodontic nurse with 14 years in the field, delivering expert clinical support for a variety of treatments. Zoe is radiography trained and proficient in taking high quality dental radiographs and digital scans to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. She is also skilled in assisting with fixed appliances, functional appliances, Invisalign aligners and composite bonding.

Known for maintaining excellent infection control standards and providing a calm reassuring presence for patients of all ages, Zoe is committed to professional development and contributing to a smooth, patient-focused clinical environment.

Abigail Huke, known to our patients as Abbie, is one of the receptionists here at Total Orthodontics Sevenoaks. She is the friendly face at the front desk, here to welcome you or the voice you'll hear when you give us a call, making sure your visit runs smoothly from start to finish and with a smile.

Abbie loves being part of a team that helps people feel more confident in their smiles. With a background in customer service and a passion for supporting others, she works hard to create a warm, relaxed environment for every patient who walks through our doors—whether it’s your first visit or your final retainer check.

Anna Muzyka-Claydon

Anna Muzyka-Claydon is a dual site practice manager, currently managing Sevenoaks Total Orthodontics and Grosvenor House orthodontic practice in Tunbridge Wells - both practices being part of Bupa. Anna began her journey with Bupa in 2016 and came from a customer service background. She has grown with the business and its challenges leading with both experience and heart. As a proud mum, she has mastered the art of multitasking—balancing work, life and everything in between.
