Helen is lead orthodontist at Total Orthodontics Beckenham.

Helen Lawton

Helen has treated thousands of patients with various braces and functional appliances. She is also qualified to provide Incognito and Invisalign systems.

Helen qualified as a dentist in 1996 with honours and an overall distinction in her final exams at Sheffield University. After a year in general dental practice, she spent two years working as a senior house officer in oral and maxillofacial surgery and orthodontics.

She then started her postgraduate orthodontic degree at the Royal London Hospital in 1999, winning the British Orthodontic Society BOTLA award for her planned research. She gained her MSc in Orthodontics from the University of London with distinctions in research, written and clinical work.

Helen was awarded her Royal College of Surgeons Membership in Orthodontics in 2002 and has spent the majority of her career as an orthodontist in both NHS and private practice.

She’s qualified to provide many types of discreet teeth straightening such as Incognito braces and the Invisalign system. She also offers treatment with functional appliances that help minimise the need for tooth extractions.

Helen’s research into obstructive sleep apnoea was published in the European Journal of Orthodontics in 2003.

Elaine Brough

Elaine is a specialist orthodontist with almost 20 years’ experience in NHS and private practice. She is a certified Invisalign and Incognito practitioner and has a calm, reassuring approach with children and adults.

Elaine studied dentistry at Newcastle Dental School, where she qualified with merit in 2002. In the five years following, Elaine gained experience in a range of dental specialties (in practice and hospital) before completing her master’s degree, focusing on the treatment of nervous patients.

In 2007, Elaine embarked on a three-year orthodontic training programme at King’s College London, completing her master’s with merit and achieving her Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.

Elaine is now a registered specialist in orthodontics with the General Dental Council (GDC) and is a member of the British Orthodontic Society (BOS). Her research into smile attractiveness has been published in the American Journal of Orthodontics.

Her background in management of nervous patients helps reassure both children and adults, and she takes the time to listen to their concerns. Elaine is based at our practice on Mondays, alternate Wednesdays and Fridays.

Mark Sayers

Mark is a specialist orthodontist and also works as a consultant. He has a particular interest in joint orthognathic surgery and restoration.

Mark studied dentistry at Cardiff University, then specialised as an orthodontist at King’s College Dental Hospital. This was followed by further training at the Eastman Dental Hospital, where he qualified as a consultant in 2006.

Mark divides his time between Total Orthodontics Beckenham and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where he works as a consultant orthodontist. He’s experienced in all forms of orthodontic treatment, including jaw surgery, joint restorative dentistry and sleep apnoea.

Mark is a member of the British Orthodontic Society and the British Lingual Orthodontic Society. He was also previously the chairperson of the Bromley British Dental Association Committee.

He’s actively engaged in orthodontic research and has supervised three MSc projects relating to patients’ expectations. These have been published in the Journal of Orthodontics.

Directions and parking

Our practice is situated in the heart of Beckenham, opposite Kings London School. We’re a 10-minute walk from both Clock House and Beckenham Junction stations, and a five-minute walk from the bus stop for the numbers 227, 354 and 54. If you’re driving to us, there’s free parking on Hayne Road and Elm Road, which has restrictions from 10am-12pm. There’s also plenty of local pay and display parking available.
