Handy hacks for your toothbrush

As orthodontists we love tooth toothbrushes, but not just because they keep teeth clean and healthy – they’re actually pretty handy for all kinds of jobs. Search the internet and you’ll find hundreds of uses for your bristly friend. Here are some of our favourites:

1. Make flaky lips a thing of the past

Simply dip your toothbrush in some cocoa butter or your favourite lip balm and gently buff away dead skin cells for a soft, kissable pout.

2. Tame unruly flyaways

Those flyaway hairs won’t stand a chance. Lightly spritz your hair with hairspray and smooth down baby hairs with your toothbrush. Or, for a more dishevelled look, use your toothbrush to backcomb your roots.

3. Control disobedient brows

A toothbrush is the perfect addition to any beauty bag. Not only are they great for smoothing brows; you can also use them to brush through your mascara to avoid clumps.

4. Clean, well, everything!

Toothbrushes are great for cleaning so many things (except perhaps large surfaces). Children’s brushes are particularly good for reaching tiny crevices. So next time you’re cleaning your taps, jewellery or kitchen equipment, reach for your toothbrush (just make sure it’s not the one you use to clean your teeth).

5. Keep your retainers clean and fresh

You can actually use your own toothbrush for this one. Every time you remove your removable retainers give them a little scrub with your toothbrush (don’t use toothpaste) and a quick rinse. This will keep them looking their best in between more thorough cleans.

6. Keep your trainers box fresh

Toothbrushes are ideal for cleaning shoes, but don’t make the mistake of borrowing your sibling’s toothbrush – it didn’t work out so well for this trainer fan.

7. Give furry friends some TLC

Toothbrushes are the perfect size for grooming little pets like long-haired hamsters and rabbits. It will keep them tangle free, plus they’ll love the attention.

8. Condition your cuticles

Keep your nails and cuticles in tip-top condition by gently buffing them with a toothbrush and some cuticle oil.

More than a few good reasons to buy a new toothbrush we think!
