Which brace is right for you?

Private teeth straightening falls into two main categories; invisible (removable clear aligners, clear braces, and lingual braces) and traditional (fixed metal braces).

With a few different ‘invisible’ braces to choose from you may find yourself wondering which one would best suit your lifestyle and budget. To help you decide, we offer free, no-obligation consultations with a specialist orthodontist. But if you’re not quite at that stage, why not check out our fun infographic to discover which brace might be best for you:

The introduction of invisible braces marked the beginning of an exciting chapter in the world of orthodontics. Suddenly adults were able to discreetly improve their smiles without having to turn to more destructive alternative such as veneers.

Best of all, there’s an invisible brace to suit everyone. We have clear fixed braces, virtually invisible transparent aligners, and even lingual braces, which we fit behind your teeth. We’ve tried and tested many different invisible braces, and we’re pleased to offer a selection that offers the best aesthetics and results.

Removable Clear Aligners

No brackets, no wires – just clear, removable aligners. If you’re considering orthodontic treatment but don’t like the thought of braces, then clear aligners could prove the ideal solution. Our patients love the fact that they’re practically invisible, and because they are removable you’ll find it easy to brush and floss your teeth as normal throughout your treatment.

At Total Orthodontics, we use the popular clear aligner brand Invisalign®. Invisalign has revolutionised orthodontic treatment, allowing you to transform your smile discreetly and comfortably. It uses a series of virtually invisible custom-made aligners to gradually straighten your teeth without the need for metal wires or brackets.

Invisalign gets better and betterEach aligner is worn for around two weeks, for between 20 and 22 hours a day, and they should only be removed for eating, brushing and contact sports, as well as the occasional special event. What’s more, you’ll be able to see your finished smile before you even start wearing your aligners – your specialist orthodontist can show you a representation of how your teeth should look once your treatment is complete.

At Total Orthodontics, our Invisalign fees are fully inclusive and include two years of follow-up care once you’ve finished wearing your aligners. You’ll also be treated by a specialist orthodontist, so you can be assured that your smile is in the best possible hands.

Clear braces

Clear braces, also known as ceramic braces, consist of transparent or tooth-coloured brackets, and provide a more discreet alternative to traditional metal braces. They offer the same precise results as fixed braces and are one of our most affordable ‘invisible’ options, making them a popular choice for both adults and teenagers.

Clear braces

We offer a range of the latest clear braces, including Clarity™ Advanced and EmPower Clear, both of which have been designed with discreetness and comfort in mind.

Clear braces blend almost seamlessly with your teeth, allowing you to confidently smile your way through treatment, while a smooth ergonomic design aims to reduce any discomfort.

Lingual braces

The crème de la crème of invisible braces: lingual braces are worn behind your teeth. Brackets are custom-made to hug onto the inside (lingual) surface of your teeth, making the brace virtually invisible. As well as being our most discreet brace, lingual braces offer all the benefits and precision of a fixed brace, ensuring you get the best possible results from your treatment. Low-profile brackets also help to make it one of the most comfortable braces around.

Treatment can take up to two years, but most of our patients begin to notice an improvement in just a few months. And because the brace is hidden behind your teeth, it won’t be long before you’re showing off a more confident smile.Incognito lingual brace

If you are only concerned about the appearance of your front teeth, you’ll be pleased to hear that there are also lingual braces that are specially designed to move just your front six or eight teeth. Simple cases such as mild crowding can sometimes be completed within just a few months.

At Total Orthodontics, we use trusted brands such as Incongito and eBrace to provide our lingual brace systems.

Fixed metal bracesBraces vs veneers

At Total Orthodontics, we offer fixed braces with a difference. Although our ‘self-ligating’ braces look very similar to traditional metal braces, there is a distinct difference. Instead of using small elastic bands to attach the wire to your brace’s brackets, self-ligating braces feature a small spring clip, reducing friction between bracket and wire.  There is less likelihood of these braces discolouring between appointments.

Here at Total Orthodontics we offer both metal and clear Damon self-ligating braces, both of which come with our ‘tried and tested’ stamp of approval.
