NHS funding is intended to provide orthodontic care to those who require
treatment to improve their dental health and not just the appearance of their teeth.
Anyone under the age of 18 is eligible for a free consultation, where one of our
specialist orthodontists will determine if you qualify for NHS treatment.
This is done using a set of measurements called the Index of Orthodontic
Treatment Need (IOTN). Some of the dental problems that typically qualify for
NHS treatment include:
- Missing teeth
- Protrusion of the teeth in excess of 6mm
- Severe crowding of the teeth
- Abnormal bites that cause problems with eating and drinking
Borderline cases are also given an aesthetic score to take into account the
appearance of the teeth.
