Rod studied dentistry at Bristol dental school, graduating with Honours
in 1985. He then spent three years in hospital posts in maxillofacial
surgery, during which time he completed his surgical training and became
a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Following that Rod completed the three-year post-graduate training in
orthodontics at Guy's Hospital, London and was awarded a MSc in
orthodontics and the Membership in Orthodontics of the Royal College
of Surgeons of Edinburgh, allowing him to register as a specialist
orthodontist with the General Dental Council. Following this he returned
to Sussex to set up a specialist orthodontic practice.
Rod is a director of Total Orthodontics and has been in specialist
orthodontic practice since 1994. He regularly lectures to various
groups, on clinical and management aspects of orthodontic practice both
nationally and internationally. He is a member of the British Orthodontic
Society, the British Lingual Orthodontic Society, the World Federation of
Orthodontists and has held hospital appointments at the Eastman Dental
Hospital and East Surrey Hospital. He is currently on the Editorial Board
of Private Dentistry.
Rod is a past chairman of the Brighton section of the British Dental
Association and has been a member of Working Parties for the British
Society of Orthodontics. He has a particular interest in adult orthodontics
in combination with complex restorative dentistry, including implants,
using a wide range of orthodontic techniques.
